AlcoholEDU

AlcoholEdu is an online alcohol education program. All incoming students under the age of 21 are required to participate in AlcoholEdu for College. Transfer students who have completed the program at their previous institution may waive this requirement by sending their official completion information to claustin@ncsu.edu.

Research indicates that the average student comes to college with a drinking history. According the 2016 NC State AlcoholEDU for College Survey 1, most first-year North Carolina State University students had consumed at least one alcoholic beverage in the past year, and 31% of first-year students drank alcohol on at least one occasion within two weeks of being surveyed. This survey was administered before they arrived at NC State. Midway through the fall semester 23% had reported drinking in a high-way (4 or more drinks for women; 5 or more drinks for men on at least one occasion in the past two weeks)

Given the statistics, NC State University requires all new students under the age of 21 to complete AlcoholEDU for College. Students must complete the program before they can register for the spring semester. This two-part (Students must complete BOTH parts one and two), online, science-based course provides detailed information on the effects of alcohol on the body and mind. It helps students make well-informed decisions about alcohol and cope with peers’ drinking behaviors.
